Ortus Solutions reaches a milestone with their Open Source Projects and number of Pull Requests

CFML Language, CFML Server, ColdBox, CommandBox, ContentBox, IntoTheBox, WireBox

Several years ago, my company and I spent time reevaluating the ColdFusion community, searching for a framework with great tooling, lots of documentation, training and professional support. We found that with Ortus Solutions and ColdBox. After a bootcamp, I started contributing however I could, a little code, some documentation, online presentations, conference sessions. At first, diving into Open Source was scary, but when you dip your toes to test the water, you realize its warm, like our ColdFusion community, and Ortus is no different. Over time I have done more and more with Ortus's many open source projects, but that is nothing in comparison to what everyone else has done.

Recently, Ortus Solutions, with their many projects, passed a milestone.

I'm happy I was a part of it, even happier that there are a lot of great people, of all levels contributing.

CommandBox, Conferences, ContentBox, Ionic

Its been a great week so far, its the last day for Ortus Developer Week 2016, and we still have 5 great sessions for you. We start today off bright and early, 7am PST with a bonus session from Alex Muramoto bringing us Ionic 2: More Framework, More Hybrid, More Better. Dive into whats new with Ionic, from an actual Ionic Developer Advocate. We are also going to see presentations on Realtime Web Sockets, Couchbase and its new N1QL SQL like querying language, Advanced HTML 5 features and a closing session, where we'll give you a hand on walkthrough using box products, building a module and submitting

For those those have not heard of ODW, it is a series of FREE and live webinars hosted by the Ortus Team and seasoned developers from around the world. These sessions will cover software development, web and mobile, and usage of any of our open source and commercial products. After a busy conference season, ODW gives you 1 more action packed week of sessions, enjoyable without travel & TSA, all from the comfort of your own office. If the sessions are too distracting to watch while you work, we record all the sessions, and make them available for later viewing as well.

BONUS SESSION
7am PST / 9am CST - Ionic 2: More Framework, More Hybrid, More Better presented by Alex Muramoto

9am PST / 11am CST - Realtime Web Sockets — presented by Giancarlo Gomez
Web Sockets are great for realtime activites, find out when and why you should use them, and how you could be using them already without knowing it.

CFCouchbase 2.0 + N1QL — presented by Aaron Benton
Couchbase 2.0 is an amazing NoSQL option, and now with this SQL like query language N1QL, its even easier to switch to a NoSql DB. Must see presentation.

Even More HTML5 — presented by Nolan Erck
HTML5 has been finalized but the spec is so big, browser makers have been slow to implement all the features. Still, several new (and useful) things have been making their way into the latest builds of FireFox and Chrome (and those other guys too) that are worth noting. Maybe you can stop relying on so many third-part libraries now. Maybe things that required hacks in CSS before can now be done easily.  Let's find out!

Build a ContentBox Module and Publish with CommandBox to Forgebox.io — presented by TEAM
A lot of interest in ContentBox, CommandBox and Forgebox, lead us to add this last minute session to the schedule when a speaker had to cancel his session. In this session we will walk through the process of building a ContentBox module - LIVE CODE. Then we will get it ready to publish to ForgeBox.io with CommandBox. This is going to be a great walkthrough, with myself, Gavin Pickin, and Brad Wood.

Last day, don't miss it.
If you do, you can always watch the recordings later.

Thanks for everyone who has contributed to Ortus Developer Week, and we hope everyone who has attended has learned a lot.

9am PST / 11am CST - CommandBox Deep Dive — presented by Brad Wood
CommandBox is the coolest thing since sliced bread. I use it every day, and every day I learn something new about it. Brad will give us a deep dive, showing us some of the new goodies he has put into his baby. I wonder what I'll learn in this session.

11am PST / 1pm CST - ContentBox CMS Deep Dive — presented by Gavin Pickin
Gavin is an interesting character, well, actually, thats me. I will be showing you a deep dive into ContentBox, giving you all you know to get started, but also how to do a little more with ContentBox, including looking at themes, widgets, modules and what else ContentBox has coming to us soon.

1pm PST / 3pm CST - Scalable Realtime Microservices with Kubernetes and gRPC — presented by Mark Mandel
Mark Mandel is a well known person in the CFML Community, although he spends all his time working for Google these days, as part of the Google Cloud Platform crew. He has always loved new and shiny, and working with Kubernetes has filled up a lot of his time at Google, and in this session, he'll give us a taste of what Kubernetes can do for you and why you should care.

3pm PST / 5pm CST - Accelerating Your Web Applications with NGINX — presented by Kevin Jones
Nginx is continuing to grow in market share as a Web Server, but Nginx is a lot more than that. With load balancing, caching, and Nginx Plus features including awesome dashboards and much more, if you haven't looked into Nginx, you should. Kevin will show us how using Nginx can accelerate your web applications, and make you think twice about using Apache, IIS and other alternatives.

Thursday looks like another day full of great sessions, will you join us? Or just watch the recordings later?
See you in the Chat Rooms

Ortus Developer Week 2016 has over 225 registered users already this year, and the number keeps growing daily. Today we have 4 more interesting sessions coming at you. Box and Beyond Q&A, RESTful APIs, Testing Automation, and Market Automation for Coldbox / ContentBox Developers. I guess today is another day where I won't get a lot of work done, as I'm glued to my screen watching these sessions. They are recorded as well, so you can always catch them after the fact if needed as well.

For those those have not heard of ODW, it is a series of FREE and live webinars hosted by the Ortus Team and seasoned developers from around the world. Pragmatic, real world examples will be used to highlight solutions to common issues like API versioning, Request validation and correct type serialization.

Day 2 - Ortus Developer Week 2016 - Tuesday Nov 15, 2016

Angular, Conferences, IntoTheBox, Javascript, Tools and IDEs, Unit Testing

UPDATE - SCHEDULE CHANGE - Luis is out sick today, so Eric Peterson is doing a double header

Ortus Developer Week 2016 started yesterday, Monday November 14th 2016 with a bang. We had Raymond Camden talking about Static Web Site generators, and all 4 sessions had great attendance. Today, Tuesday the 15th is going to be another action packed day of presentations.

Today has a testing feel to the day, with 3 2 of the 4 sessions giving you some amazing tools and tips about testing.
Update - 2 of the 4 sessions are now testing

9am PST / 11am CST - Fusion Reactor with CommandBox and Code Coverage for CMFL — presented by Brad Wood
This session shows off a specially designed Fusion Reactor plugin that works with CommandBox ( yes you can use Fusion Reactor with CommandBox ) and allows you to see Code Coverage metrics for your tests. You have to watch this.

Testing Automation — presented by Luis Majano
The master of testing himself, Luis will dive a little deeper into this advanced session, where you can see how TestBox and Continuous Integration (CI) Tools can help you automate your testing. This session will touch on Jenkins, Travis CI, Node runners, Grunt Watchers, and a few others. For those not doing CI, or not a ninja, this will be a great session for you. I'll be there

Luis is out sick today, so Eric Peterson is doing a double header
Eric Peterson continues to impress me. Every project he touches makes me want to see more. Yesterday in the meet the family session, Brad shared his private CommandBox server with the world with a simple CommandBox command Eric wrote, box-ngrok, leveraging ngrok, to create a secure tunnel to his machine so we could all hit his machine. Perfect for sharing your dev machine with a client, but I digress.

11am PST / 1pm CST - ColdBox Elixir Deep Dive — presented by Eric Peterson
ColdBox Elixir is based on a very popular tool in the Laravel community, named Elixir. Laravel is a PHP framework which is doing great things, and has a strong community behind it. Elixir is a conventions based tool for managing your assets. ColdBox Elixir is a direct port, with conventions based on ColdBox's setup, and makes Compilation and management of Assets a breeze. After using Grunt and Gulp myself, switching to Elixir was so refreshing. It has a simple consistent API and takes a lot of the guesswork out of the process. It is a powerful tool, and look forward to learning more about it.

1pm PST / 3pm CST - Integrated: A TestBox package for even better Integration tests in ColdBox — presented by Eric Peterson
In this session, Eric shows off another one of his creations, which I think is equally cool... Integrated. Why the name, because it makes your TestBox tests even more Integrated, with some Selenium like syntax sprinkled directly inside of your TestBox tests. Again, another session I will not miss.

3pm PST / 5pm CST - Conquer the UI with Vue.js and ColdBox — presented by Scott Steinbeck
To finish the day off, something outside the world of testing, but equally as cool... VueJS. I have worked with Scott over the years, and more recently, I even wrote some VueJS code on a project we were working on together, and I was pretty amazed how awesome it was, but also, how approachable. Its like the baby of React and Angular with little to no learning curve, and great results in a short time. Its a new project, with a lot behind it now, with 2.0 just released, VueJS is one of the great additions to the JS frameworks. The best thing I like about it, you can just use it for 1 component, or one item on a page, so it means you can start using today... without having to rewrite your entire app.

I guess I won't be getting much work done today, as these are all great sessions, and I cannot wait to see them all.
If you cannot make it to the live session, which is great for questions as the presenters go, you can always watch the recordings.

Hope you enjoy the great content Ortus Developer Week is presenting.
Try to get a little work done too ;)
