Attending MuraCon 2018 in Sacramento California April 5th and 6th

CFML Language, cfObjective, Conferences, ContentBox

MuraCon6 - April 5th and 6th 2018 in Sacramento CaWorking for Ortus Solutions has a lot of perks, and one of them is being involved with a great company that supports ColdFusion in many ways. One way is sponsoring conferences, this week I am going to MuraCon 2018 to represent Ortus Solutions in Sacramento, California on Thursday April the 5th, and Friday April the 6th. You might think a ContentBox guy going to a Mura Conference is strange, but I'm not going there to spy ( although I might a little ), but I'll be there to discuss other great Ortus Solutions products like CommandBox, CacheBox, and probably the most in demand topic, Docker and Containerization. I will also be there to listen to a lot of great speakers giving great presentations. It might be refreshing to be able to attend a conference without speaking as well. That hasn't happened much lately. Find out how to find me and what I'll be attending while at MuraCon.

cf.Objective() in DC this week - July 20 & 21 2017

cfObjective, Conferences

This year has flown by. I've been busy, and obviously writing blog posts for my personal site has fallen by the way side. Into The Box converted from a 1 day conference, to a 2 day conference, and was a huge success in Houston in April... and this week is the next conference, cf.Objective(). Yes, dev.Objective() has been renamed back to cf.Objective() and has moved from MN to Washington DC.

I am lucky to be speaking at cf.Objective() again, with 2 sessions, plus, if you get into DC early, I am presenting at the NORTHERN VIRGINIA COLDFUSION USERS GROUP (NVCFUG) on Wednesday night.

IntoTheBox 2017, New Year, New Venue, New Format, More Great Content

cfObjective, Conferences, IntoTheBox

Ortus Solutions is happy to be an active member of the ColdFusion / CFML community, one way we contribute to the community is with opensource, another is continued education and training. After successful bootcamps, trainings, and online conferences, Ortus Solutions created their own conference, IntoTheBox in 2014. After 3 years in MN, the day prior to CF.Objective() ( also knows as dev.Objective() ), its time for IntoTheBox to make some big changes and go out on its own. ITB 2017 has a lot of changes, read more to find out all the details.

June already? That means I have 3 sessions at 2 conferences in 2 weeks

CFML Language, cfObjective, Conferences, Dev.Objective, IntoTheBox, Javascript, Server Admin, Unit Testing

This year is a little different, with the CFML Conference season starting in June, and not May. Dev.Objective() changed their date, and Into the Box followed suite to give us an action packed week of materials. I am excited to be presenting at both conferences again, and getting to talk with all of my old friends, and make some new ones while I am there.

Building a Bigger Better CFML Community

CFML Language, CFML Server, cfObjective, Conferences, Dev.Objective, Lucee

I have been thinking about submitting a session or two for dev.Objective(), especially fueled by yesterday’s CFML Panel at CF Summit. I decided we need to be more vocal, so I wanted to write an outline for a session to submit to dev.Objective(). The more I thought about it, and discussed with people in the hallways, I came to the conclusion to make it more than a normal track session, but maybe a keynote, or a general session… so there are no other sessions competing with it… because I think it’s something EVERYONE should think about.

Please note, I am not saying that I am the one that should be leading the charge, giving the talks, or calling the shots, but I have an idea, I have a lot of ideas, some good, most bad, but sometimes putting an idea out there, can let it snowball and evolve into something good, and that’s what I am doing here. I encourage you to speak out, respond in comments, and let’s start a conversation.

CF Summit is coming to a close - thinking ahead to dev.Objective()

CFML Language, cfObjective, Conferences, Dev.Objective

This year’s dev.objective() was again a joy to attend, and have the pleasure of speaking at. I had the pleasure of talking with old friends and new friends, and during the process, I had several conversations about what makes dev.Objective() great, what could be better, and how to reach out to new people and group.

Cordova Hooks - Deep Drive into my Cordova Cleanup Hook - written in NodeJS

Android, cfObjective, Conferences, Cordova / Phonegap, Dev.Objective, Ionic, Javascript, Mobile Development, Node.js

After my session about Dev.Objective() called “Getting your Hooks into Cordova - Workflows and Build Helpers”, I decided I should do a deep dive into each of my Hooks I discussed in my presentation, and today we’ll look at my Cordova Cleanup Hook, written in NodeJS.

Post Conference - Session Review - Getting your hooks into Cordova- Workflows and Build Helpers

Android, cfObjective, Cordova / Phonegap, Dev.Objective, Ionic, Javascript, Mobile Development, Node.js, Unit Testing

May 15th, 2015 was the last day of dev.Objective(), and the last session of the day had some great topics, “Devops: journeyman to infrastructure mastery”, ‘Marketing for Developers’, ‘Level Up your Javascript: Understanding the confusing bits’, ‘Web sockets, yes they can do that too', and my session, ‘Getting your Hooks into Cordova - Workflows and Build Helpers'. With mobile and hybrid development really growing into a track of its own, I decided to submit this topic, as I believe Cordova Hooks are a big part of Cordova mobile develop, they save me hours every week, and they are relatively unknown if you search for blog posts about them. When the session was accepted, I took that as a challenge to up my game and really research hooks, and make my presentation a complete resource.

dev.Objective() is over, returning back to normal life.

CFML Language, cfObjective, Conferences, Dev.Objective, Javascript, Mobile Development, Unit Testing

dev.Objective() conference held last week in Bloomington MN, with IntoTheBox the day prior, was a great geek week as I like to put it. Of course a conference is most importantly there to give you information to grow and learn, but networking is a close second, and it was great to catch up with friends, and make some new ones at the same time.I was lucky enough to be picked to present not one, but two sessions this time, which adds a weight to your shoulders, but is great to give back, and be on the other side of things.

Speaking at Dev.Objective() x 2 - Cordova Hooks and Testable JavaScript

cfObjective, Conferences, Cordova / Phonegap, Dev.Objective, Javascript, Lucee, Mobile Development, Unit Testing

Dev.Objective() is the 10th year of cf.Objective() rebranded to describe the 5 track professional developer conference more accurately ( more info here).  Still hosting a large number of ColdFusion topics, and a lot of the normal speakers, the content again is simple amazing. Technology is changing and so is this conference, and I am happy to say, that not one, but two of my sessions have been picked for this years Dev.Objective() this May, 12-15th in Bloomington, Mn.
As usual, my work fuels my blog, and my ideas for sessions, and this year is no different. Lately I have been focusing on Javascript with my Mobile Development, and I have come a long way, compiling knowledge as I go. I think both of these topics are great combinations of all the solid content out there, all in one place to get someone up and running quickly. I was surprised to get both accepted, more work than I was expecting, but I like a challenge, and work well under the gun, so its going to be fun knocking these out. If you are thinking about what conference to attend, you can’t do much better than this one.
